In the year 2022, Sita Navami is being celebrated on 10th May. This date is celebrated every year on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh according to the Hindu calendar. This date comes about a month after Ram Navami.

Today is the Navami date and Tuesday of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha. Navami date will remain till 07.24 pm today. On this day King Janak (Videha Raj) found Lord Ramachandra’s eternal wife, Mata Sita (Videhi) from the earth while plowing. Hence this date is celebrated as Sita Navami. Dhruv yoga will remain till 8.22 pm tonight.

Apart from the original texts, and the scriptures, there are folk tales and oral traditions that make these epics more attractive.

King Janak Maharaj of Mithila was blessed by the sages to get children that when he plows in the field, his wish will be fulfilled, then he plowed the ground and found a golden coffin in which he found a beautiful baby girl. The land which was plowed by yoke is called ‘Sita‘, hence they named her Sita.

Sita Navami is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Goddess Sita, hence this day is also known as Sita Jayanti. Married women should have a fast on the day of Sita Navami and pray for the long life of their husbands.

Mother Sita herself is an incarnation of Mahalakshmi. She is the princess of Mithila incarnated in Treta Yuga, the religious wife of Sri Ramachandra, the central character of the epic ‘Ramayana‘. She is also known as Janak Nandani (daughter of King Janak) and Janaki.
